Volunteer and make a difference to your community

Volunteers are at the heart of each of our Age Connects branches. Without the hard-work and enthusiasm of the hundreds of volunteers who support us, we could not deliver the work that we do.

Our volunteers perform a huge range of tasks. Many become Befrienders, providing much-needed emotional support to people who are socially isolated or lonely, through phone conversations or face-to-face visits. Others want to help us financially and volunteer as a Community Fundraiser, running their own fundraising events or challenges. Volunteer Drivers are another popular option, you could provide essential transport for older people in the community who have difficulty getting out and about. Admin Volunteers are also vital, working from our office and providing much needed administration support, to help our branches runs smoothly.

Whatever route you choose we make volunteering with Age Connects as simple as possible! No qualifications are necessary; all you need is a little free time, a big heart, and a good sense of humour! We provide all the necessary training to make sure you learn and grow into your role. It’s about giving your time to help do something useful. In return, you get the satisfaction of directly helping an older person or helping a charity to run more efficiently.

Becoming a volunteer can also have lots of benefits for the individual encompassing personal growth, community engagement, and skill development. Engaging in volunteer work provides individuals with opportunities for self-discovery, skill acquisition, and the cultivation of a sense of purpose. Through volunteering, individuals forge meaningful connections, expand their networks, and gain valuable experience that can boost their personal and professional lives. Moreover, volunteering has been linked to improved physical and mental health, fostering a sense of belonging and fulfilment while making a tangible difference in the lives of others.

Overall, volunteering is a rewarding endeavour that enriches both the individual and society, fostering positive change and collective wellbeing.
