Save energy and money with a referral to LEAP
Age Connects Wales have partnered with LEAP to offer a free energy and money saving advice service to our clients. LEAP is a free service that is helping people keep warm and reduce their energy bills without costing them any money. It is designed to help those on low incomes and is not limited to older people.
LEAP are the Local Energy Advice Partnership; they are there to support as many people as possible who are at risk of going into fuel poverty. The service is open to all types of householders – homeowners, private renters, and social housing tenants - and they serve 70% of the UK population.
If you have been struggling to pay your energy bills, please don't think you're alone. According official estimates over 10% of households are in fuel poverty. It can be caused by a mixture of high energy prices, low incomes, and energy-inefficient homes. Fuel poverty can have life-changing effects on households, with the stress of debt, for example, creating social isolation and even illness.
Age Connects Wales are one of a UK-wide network of referral partners who will refer anyone who is in (or at risk of falling into) fuel poverty. Referral partners include food banks, Citizens Advice, health clinics, charities, and local authorities.
Once Age Connects have made a referral, a highly trained energy advisor from LEAP will contact you to discuss your situation. They will offer tailored advice and support based on your needs, including any onwards referral or referral for a follow-up home visit when suitable.
LEAP will identify and refer you for further support where required. This includes referrals for income, benefits, and debt advice, referrals for home improvements such as white goods, plus assistance with applying for the Warm Home Discount and the Priority Services Register (if eligible).
Following your energy advice call, LEAP will send you a summary of the energy advice discussed with your advisor and a reminder of any onward referrals made.
You may be eligible for the LEAP service if one of the below apply.
- Total annual household income less than £31,000
- You receive tax credits
- You receive Housing Benefit
- You receive an income or disability related benefit
